Its the same old song...

When I came home from Greece last year in September,I started writing to all the mp's around the country,to make them not only aware of my son's plight but also of what our family and other families that we met over in Greece were going through at that time.

After weeks and weeks and a lot of hard work, all we received back was the same negative and boring letter.

If you look below you will see one of them ,but I have taken the name away and The sad part is even up till this date, this is what you may receive if you happen to write to a MP that was not in your town.

This is a cross party issue not just in my area ,don't the MP's realise that the next victim and there family could come from within there own constituency and they have a duty of care to them, to find out what problems that can occur and find out more on this subject before it happens (NOT AFTER).

Its called working together and sharing information so that it can be passed on to our colleges family and friends etc.
.....................................................................................

Dear Ms Hughes,

Thank you for your recent telephone message. I was extremely sorry to learn of the attack on your son Robert. I am sure this must have been a terribly upsetting experience and can only imagine what you have all been through.

Owing to strict parliamentary protocol, I cannot make enquiries on your behalf as I am not your Member of Parliament. From your letter it would appear that you have already contacted your own MP and I would strongly suggest that you continue to pursue his office. you may also wish to consider seeking legal advice.

Silent Dreams...............

You may say that when you see pictures of Robbie he never really smiles, that's because when he was paralysed his facial muscles in his face were so badly affected.
But Remember he smiles from within as he has a heart of Gold.

Below there is a poem that I done a few months ago.

Poem

The saying is important
It takes time to know him well
It gets cold on my own in the evening
And my hart beat shudders and swells

Make no mistake I'm within my senses
My ringing bells are in tacked as well
The gods are always beside me
So should I ask them, more then tell.

Had the candle in the wind not taken its time to burn
And the dream broken at the stem, given time to make the mend
If that gift was not given before the the wedding blessed
Then our royal highness may never had been laid to rest.

Story's are cruel painful with spite
Restless restless night after night
Arms that I can fill are strong and warm
Time to awake up and come out of this storm.

London Euro-MP takes Greece attack victim case to the Foreign Office

13 May 2009

London Euro-MP Robert Evans took the case of attack victim Robert Hughes to the Minister for Europe, Carline Flint, today in pursuit of justice for the beaten footballer.

Robert Hughes, 28 from Bromley, was left fighting for his life after he was viciously attacked while on holiday in Malia, Crete, in June 2008. As he lay in a coma, a legal loophole allowed the suspected attackers to leave the country. Having sustained severe head injuries causing serious brain damage, Robert Hughes, who has played for Fulham youth team, Sutton United, Croydon Athletic and Oxford United, was in a Greek hospital for 3 months, undergoing four brain operations.

Robert Hughes’s mother, Margaret Hughes of Sutton, is now campaigning to bring his attackers to justice and for the Government to provide better support for victims abroad.

Having spoken to Caroline Flint about the case personally, Robert Evans was able get Margaret Hughes a meeting with the Minister for Europe at the Foreign Office today to discuss the case and to find better ways to help UK residents caught up in similar situations while abroad in future.

Robert Evans said, “This is a European matter of international importance. Greece is a European Union country and while Robert Hughes was there on holiday he was the victim of a brutal and cowardly attack. We must make sure justice is done.”

Robert Evans added, “This case has also highlighted the difficulties faced by victims in foreign countries, whether it’s a case of violence, theft or just a bad accident. We must work together to improve support services for those who experience these kind of problems whilst abroad. I salute the work Margaret Hughes has done in this area and I have full confidence in Caroline Flint to work to improve the situation and to assist with bringing the attackers of Robert Hughes to justice

Last night was Robert's first full game on the pitch since his attack on him last year in Malia Greece. Well done Rob.and all the lads that played.

If you look at the before and after it tells its own story ,its called Courage

Please Enjoy Don't Destroy-is what we stand for Mr Brown.

That letter was from the heart and made people Think/stop/and listen David and Boris have made contact, but our PM has failed to do so,so far........Why.?

Artical from october 2008.

Artical from october 2008.

THE distraught mum of Croydon footballer Rob Hughes, who was left for dead following a brutal attack in Greece , has this week hit out at some of the country’s top politicians for not doing enough to bring her son’s attackers to justice.

Rob was kicked, stamped and bottled into a coma by thugs outside a nightclub in Malia, on the island of Crete , by a gang of English thugs in June.

He has since returned to the UK after a series of operations, but his mum Margaret has vowed not to rest until those responsible are behind bars.

Now Mrs Hughes has called on British authorities to do as much as possible to make sure the matter is properly investigated in Greece , but she said so far her bid for political backing has been fruitless.

In a strong letter to Conservative Party leader David Cameron, she accused him of lacking “dignity and respect” after he failed to respond to her emails.

And Mrs Hughes is equally unimpressed with prime minister Gordon Brown and Mayor of London Boris Johnson, both of whom have yet to respond to her call for action.

Rob’s attackers are still at large in the UK after returning home thanks to a legal loophole in Greek law.

This week Mrs Hughes told the Advertiser: “I buried the son I knew in Greece .

“The Robbie I’ve got now is different, I’ve got to learn to look after the new Robbie.

“He’s no different in temperament, but his character has changed.

“They (his attackers) ripped so much away from him, just for a seven or eight minute frenzy.”

And she said that until crucial prosecution papers are stamped in Greece , Rob’s attackers will remain at large, a fact she finds infuriating.

Mrs Hughes stated: “If the British government was behind me and they put pressure on the Greek government, I am sure it could be done by tomorrow morning.

“If they were serious about dealing with violence, they would have done something by now.”

She was infuriated when she received a letter from David Cameron’s office stating that the Tory leader could not look into the matter as she does not live in her constituency.

Mrs Hughes believes that unless the British authorities show their mettle in Rob’s case, the number of victims of violence abroad will continue to rise.

Her letter to Mr Cameron stated: “From the beginning all I wanted was to bring my son home then get the thugs back to Greece to face what they did to my son Robert.

“I hear nearly every day that as a country we are going to clamp down on thugs and violence, but I would like to know when are we going to start?

“It’s no good just talking about the problems we have in this country we need to start dealing with them now.”

She said she plans to send a similar letters to the prime minister and the mayor of London , who she also believes have shirked their responsibilities.

Wake me up please...........................

I meet new victims now, with there torn family's
Talking of violence that happened in foreign countries
Headline tragic news it beginning to hurts my ears
Same last year ,violence crime unnecessary accidents sparking all my fears.

It pains me so, to tell these family's the full and horrid truth
The same answers spoken again this year , its so cruel and so uncouth
Don't give a dame the tour company's and bar owners would say
As long as its sold that ticket or next drink, there laughing all the way.

Spoken to the tourist reps, who just don't want to know
As long as that shot is paid for and the punters are swaying to and throw
That's my child you are filling up with cheap and over priced drink
You won't want to clear it up, when there sick in your toilets or sink.

The none license bouncers, waiting to grab me and throw me out
Who gives a shit his drunk they say,but do they know I'm not a thug or lout?
There minds made up angry and now throwing me out
Boots in my back, bottle over the head, with there fist in my clout.

Please stop I beg you ,I'm someones son or someones daughter
Head pounding ,blood poring, should I go, I think I alter.
The light has gone now, left is the sound of a silent muffled calm
Friends crying standing over me ,How bad I hear I think Ive been badly harmed.

Its the noise of the machines now, I can hear ringing in my ear
Doctors and nurses talking together with my parents I do fear
I can't see them at all now, oh why cant this be
His blind I hear ,this can't be happening to some one like me.

Last night I was laughing and going out with my friends
I'm now on that theatre list, as my life could now come to its end
I really need to go home now .as this can't be my last day
The line now gone dead ,the sounds have now stopped. As I think ive past away.

I can still hear the screams from my mums distant voice
Mum and dad are told, I've gone now, so home they go as they have no choice
Please don't leave me hear I'm frightened, you have given me that scare
Oh my god I was asleep, its was only a dream and horrible everlasting nightmare.

Or was it....?

Take a look at another victim just over a year on since my son Robert's attack in Malia in Crete 2008.When will this government sit up and take notice, as if they don't I'm sure the next one will.

Just a reminder this site is still under construction so be patient with us.

Just a snippet from the London tonight program,This brings it back to me on how well Rob did just to even go to this event at that time.

As he was still recuperating after a long journey home, and a week before he was still in Greece.

Can I thank Mark B and Gerry D and all the Bromley staff and not forgetting the fans and supporters for the best day ever, not only for Robert but for my family and I as well.

This fundraising event was such a light relief from the stress that we faced on a daily basis in the Hospital in Crete.

I was taken back by peoples generosity and kind words of support,it take a very special person to help someone else....And you are, as you all did.

Thank you Bromley football club.
